Development Intern Overview

Cultivate Intern Program is designed to develop future non-profit leaders by providing hands-on experience in furthering our strategic goals of identifying victims, empowering survivors, engaging communities, and influencing culture. Interns will gain knowledge in what it means to provide holistic, trauma-informed support to vulnerable communities through meeting the needs of the whole person, not just their victimization. Interns will build critical skills needed to succeed in the non-profit and social services space, such as program development, community outreach and engagement, non-profit administration, and crisis intervention. All Cultivate Internships are unpaid positions.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Intern will assist in identifying and executing various funding opportunities to grow and maintain The Landing’s funding portfolio.

Objectives:

· Supports donor cultivation by assessing and providing recommendations for existing donor engagement

· Researches and identifies new donor prospects

· Assesses administrative and development processes and provides recommendations for efficiency

· Analyzes strategic plan and provide recommendations for improved catalyzation

· Enhances department and organization by accomplishing new and different requests

· Collaborates with other TL staff to identify best practices across programs and administrative processes

· Assists with special projects/tasks

· Attends TL’s outreach events/trainings as needed

· Participates in weekly staff meetings

· Promotes a positive social climate that fosters client engagement

Qualifications:

· Excellent written and verbal communication

Programs Intern Overview

· Collaborate across programs to align program best practices and processes

· Assists the DSP with various program processes and procedures development

· Answers phone calls and connects callers with appropriate resources and/or staff members

· Provides referral services and follow up as necessary

The Landing’s mission is to serve survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation with a trauma-informed approach, fueled by the love of Christ. Please apply to this position if you are in alignment with The Landing’s mission.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Youth Advocate is responsible for responding on-scene to crisis situations to provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, outreach, emotional support, and to maintain an active case load of sex trafficking survivors and their non-offending caregivers. The Youth Advocate is responsible for using sound professional judgment to ensure quality case management, mentoring, and advocacy services are provided to youth survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Youth Advocates will be expected to be culturally competent to communicate effectively with law enforcement, community agencies, and diverse populations. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays is mandatory for Youth Advocates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engagement and Crisis Response

  • Provide crisis response services to survivors and caregivers (non-offending), under supervision of Program Manager
  • Answer crisis hotline calls and dispatch in-person to potential survivors of human trafficking within the required timeframe of 90 minutes to hospitals, police stations, DFPS offices, shelters, community-based settings, or other incident locations
  • Provide trauma-Informed crisis intervention when responding to hotline calls and conduct assessments of victims’ immediate threat of harm
  • Initiate the creation and implementation of a safety plan with survivors and caregivers, when applicable
  • Provide and participate in outreach activities to schools, churches, detention centers, and other community agencies focused on victim identification and linkage to services
  • Maintain a caseload of 10-15 youth advocacy clients

Case Coordination

  • Work with clients to plan, implement, and monitor goal setting and service plans from a strengths-based, trauma–informed, and culturally competent perspective
  • Serve as linkage to services including but not limited to drug treatment, transitional housing, residential treatment, counseling and therapy, legal services, job training, etc.
  • Assist clients in developing service plans addressing physical safety, stabilization, substance abuse, and mental health issues from a harm-reduction approach
  • Provide support to guardians for maintaining the care for youth including but not limited to resources for rental and utility assistance, family counseling, parenting classes, etc.
  • Routinely follow up with clients on assigned caseload and document contact in case management database
  • Continually assess clients for safety risk, protective factors, and overall well-being. Track and document positive and negative changes in client behavior, circumstance, overall well-being and adjust service plan accordingly
  • Counsel clients regarding stress reduction, goal attainment, and holistic well- being
  • Provide crisis intervention for clients experiencing emotional distress
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data results regarding methods of treatment and progress
  • Provide transportation and emotional support to clients’ appointments as needed
  • Maintain ethical standards through adherence to the Texas Victim Service Association Code of Ethics
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and other relevant documentation in accordance with agency policy

Client Advocacy

  • Provide advocacy, crisis intervention, case coordination, referrals, and other services for youth and young adult victims
  • With an emphasis on survivor empowerment and self-determination facilitate the development of service plans including but not limited to referrals to residential programs, individual and family therapy, support groups, drug treatment, mental health services, legal assistance, and educational services
  • Act in the youth’s best interest by supporting the youth’s relationships with community members, stakeholders, and caregivers when appropriate
  • Engage and involve youth and their caregivers in the casework process when appropriate
  • Meet and communicate regularly with the youth and/or their caregivers as needed and coordinate response to crisis calls for assigned caseload including in-office meetings, meetings in the field, and home visits
  • Conduct continual comprehensive assessments regarding the safety and well- being of youth and caregivers on case load
  • Act as liaison with stakeholders including legal providers, child protection, law enforcement, federal partners, and others to ensure both local and program protocols are followed
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team designed to provide specialized services for victims of trafficking. Multidisciplinary teams will include members from DFPS, District Attorney’s Office, Law Enforcement, and other stakeholders
  • Provide information about the criminal justice system and provide legal advocacy and/or court accompaniment to clients engaged in the legal system
  • Provide emotional support and follow-up calls to victims as needed
  • Document advocacy services provided, referrals given, progress or decline in the wellbeing of youth and their caregivers, achievement of service goals, and case outcomes
  • Process requests for financial assistance for clients (Crime Victims Compensation, etc.)
  • Initiate contact with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services when child abuse or neglect is suspected
  • Transport clients to meetings and appointments, when needed, according to program protocol and with parental consent
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations

Program Support Services

  • Work from a strengths-based, trauma–informed, and culturally competent perspective
  • Participate in providing feedback and input into the program design and the development of relevant trainings/manuals
  • Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor, including on-call assigned shifts
  • Interact with the community and develop relationships with agencies and other service providers that can provide needed referrals and resources for survivors of human trafficking

Other

  • Participate in workshops, seminars, education programs and other activities that promote professional growth and development
  • Maintain timesheets and other administrative tasks
  • Participate in weekly supervision with supervisor
  • Educate at-risk youth in schools, child advocacy centers, and juvenile detention centers about domestic minor sex trafficking and human trafficking as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a Human Services related field preferred
  • LBSW, LMSW, or related license/certificate preferred
  • Bilingual-English and Spanish required
  • At least 1-year experience in related field preferred
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Ability to transport clients
  • Able to maintain flexible work hours including weekend/evening events as needed
